Back to School means lots of shopping for back-to-school supplies. With several children the costs can really add up, but one way to save money is the third annual Tax-Free Holiday Weekend.
For Mississippi the Holiday will begin 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, and end 12:00 midnight Saturday,
July 30, 2011. In Louisiana, the 2011 holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 5, and continues through 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 6.
The popular “back to school” event is worth 7 % (MS) & 4% (LA) in
savings to consumers as result of waiving the sales tax on specific
items.
Louisiana -- August 5-6
The holiday will apply to the 4 percent state sales tax, but will not
apply to the sales taxes levied by parishes, municipalities, school
boards, and other political subdivisions of the state.
Mississippi – July 29-30 (The
following municipalities are suspending the Sales Tax Holiday within
their corporate limits and will not participate this year: Bolton,
Crenshaw, Enterprise, Heidelberg, and Magnolia.)
Please review the listing of eligible and non-eligible clothing and footwear items for more information.
