My family and I were sent a 32 oz jar of Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to sample. This was our first experience with using any type of coconut oil, so I set out to learn everything that I could before using it.
Almost all "virgin" coconut oils sold on the market today are
mass-produced by machine. Tropical Traditions sets themselves apart by continuing the time-honored traditional practices that have produced healthy coconut
oil for hundreds, if not thousands of years.
Their Gold Label Virgin
Coconut Oil is still produced by hand, using the wet-milling process of
extracting the oil from fresh coconuts. They pick out the best
coconuts from each harvest that produce the best quality oil.
I found that there are literally hundreds of uses for Coconut Oil. Such as:
We decided to make one of our favorite treats with our jar of coconut oil -- sweet potato fries. As we were preparing to make them, my husband decided to take a spoon and just taste the coconut oil straight from the jar. He commented that the oil had a nice flavor, wasn't too sweet and had a texture similar to peanut butter. I made him put the bread away before he started making a sandwich!
I'd read in my research that it was best to start with less oil than you would normally use, so I had Sonny only put a few big scoops into the frying pan. The amount he put went a long way.
Everyone agreed that the fries came out crispy and yummy with a slight coconut infusion. The only complaint was that there wasn't enough fries for seconds!
Our next project is to use some more of our coconut oil to make fudge. I saw some chatter on Facebook about a knock-off Mounds coconut candy that sounds like something we would love.
